SPANISH STEPS TOUR | MUST SEE IN ROME | PLACES TO VISIT IN ROME

Press room > ARTICLES

The Spanish Steps is one of the major attractions in Rome with many wonders to see and explore all around. The steps begin at the Piazza di Spagna and slope upward to the Piazza Trinità dei Monti and the Trinità dei Monti church. The Spanish Steps are a series of 138 steps with several rectilinear, curvilinear, concave ramps, convex ramps, and terraces. Sanctis and Specchi, being today the tallest structure built in the 18th century in Rome, built the steps in 1723 to 1725.

From the magnificent Piazza di Spagna with all its wonderful sights to see all the way to the top of the Spanish Steps is an adventure in itself that many enjoy during their trips to Rome.

In the Piazza di Spagna a few of the attractions include the barcaccia fountain by Bernini which was built as a memorial of a flood, the facades by Bernini and Borromini, and the 17th century column dedicated to the Immaculate Conception. Other things you must see include the Palazetto Zuccari built by Federico Zuccari in the 18th century commonly referred to as the house of monsters. Look closely at the windows and you will see why it received its unique name.

The French Government built the church as the top of the Spanish Steps for residents of Rome. The church alone is an awesome site to see with its ornate façade and twin bell towers and of course, the scenery looking down the steps is one that will envelope you in beauty. Inside the church, you will find the frescoes, Assumption and Deposition created by Daniele de Volterra during the 16th century. Just do not forget to stop and look at the beauty that is all around from the steps to the domes of Saint Peter's Basilica.
With a personal tour guide, you will be able to learn all the history of the Spanish Steps, slowly climb, and envision walking in the same footsteps of those wishing to reach the church.
